Dear Parents,
Good evening from Hunsur and our final full day at the farm; it’s certainly been a busy one! Another dawn start for bird-watching and students were able to match up pictures from their packs to commonly sighted birds around the lake. Binoculars accompanied the students in pairs as they explored the banks of the water and the surround orchard. A tasty snack followed while we waited for breakfast; sweet potato, various eggs and the usual fruit, bread and jams.
The groups then split anew and went on an insect hunt. Being more familiar with their environs they were well prepared and informed to gather and identify the various creatures that inhabit the farm. Conan and Sumanth had been busy the previous night out capturing wildlife for the students to examine. A fruitless hour chasing the same snake gave way to encountering a bullfrog and a large crab. The students loved getting up close and personal with the beasts before meeting a gecko.
After topping up with another snack the students went off to a carousel of forest activities. Slack-lining proved a huge hit with the students as they showed they were balanced individuals! Canopying was another favourite as the students ascended into the roof of the forest using ropes and climbing equipment. They encouraged each other no end and even started timing the quickest for fun. Conan explained the importance of this type of activity on relation to forestry and conservation. The third activity was a rpe activity based on various knots and their names, complimented with a word search and a cross word on topical issues of the week.
The third and final raft took to the seas after lunch as others completed their carousel. Lunch was a repeat of yesterday’s spaghetti, courtesy of Ozzie Martin as he heard the students loved it so much. They did again! After the final group came to shore, showered and changed, we got together for the final reflections of thecfe week and to prepare packing for departureegqcdxf w

As I write, we have just finished watching slide shows, set to music, of the preceding three days and we regret we couldn’t share pictorially during the week, but rest assured I have a few things up my sleeve for my return and I will get to work on them over the break. J Conan and Sumanth have just started a presentation on snakes and tomorrow the students will get a chance to see one they have captured as well as to plant some things on the farm, before departure. We will have a campfire after dinner and put the kids to bed.
We’ve had a great week and, on behalf of the team, thanks for entrusting your children to us over the course of the week; it’s a responsibility, pleasure and a privilege we don’t take for granted. Have a good evening and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow around 3pm. We’ll keep Ms Helen posted on our travel progress. Have a good evening!
The P7 Team.
